A disaster struck the Linto tribe; only one boy survived, shielded by the bodies of his parents. All that remained of the village was the ash from the homes and the Tree of Life—a symbol of the Linto clan—standing hidden in the cave. The boy decides, along with the cranes (a sacred animal), to carry this tree out of the cave and embark on a journey to another place where he could start a new life.
