Smolensk Lutheran Cemetery is more than just an architectural monument. It represents a distinct landscape where the clear distinction between the man-made and the natural gradually dissolves. The crosses become extensions of the trees, and the gravestones become part of the earth. The location intertwines with nature and becomes a part of it. Death there is perceived not as a loss, but rather as a natural, organic process.
